The house
Docelles’ old bakehouse: a house for six on the edge of the forest
The village bread oven has made way for a warm, welcoming home, fully restored: sandstone walls and exposed beams, old furniture, a wood-burning stove and all today’s comforts.
The house looks down over the village of Docelles, two minutes’ walk from the forest and five from the bakery, 20 minutes from Épinal and half an hour from Lake Gérardmer.
Downstairs: the open-plan living space (kitchen, sitting room, dining area), the bathroom with washing machine and a separate toilet. Upstairs: two interconnecting bedrooms and a desk corner with Wi-Fi.
The living space
Downstairs, kitchen, sitting room and dining area flow into one: you can cook and chat, play by the fire and keep an eye on the children.

The kitchen, just like home
A big wooden island, oven, microwave, hob, dishwasher and freezer, and everything you need for a raclette or fondue after a day’s walking. Oil, salt, pepper and coffee are provided.

The sitting room, by the stove
Room for six around the wood-burning stove, with logs and kindling stacked ready beside it. The old chest is full of board games for the evenings, and there’s a flat-screen TV for rainy days.

The dining area, facing the valley
A whole wall of glass: breakfast looking out over the village and wooded hills, watching the weather roll across the valley.

The terrace and garden
A sunny terrace with table and parasol, sun loungers, a charcoal barbecue and a garden looking onto the forest. The garden is only partly fenced, worth knowing if your dog likes to explore.
Upstairs
Two interconnecting bedrooms under the beams
The two bedrooms interconnect: you go through the mezzanine room with two single beds to reach the room with the double bed. Perfect for a family; for two adult couples, it’s worth knowing in advance. The old floorboards creak a little, as they do in every old house.
In the sitting room, the sofa unfolds into a bed, so the house sleeps up to six. A cot and a travel cot are provided.

What our guests say
After a good day’s hiking, it’s a lovely place to come home to. The kitchen is well equipped, there was plenty of wood for the stove, and our dog was welcome too.
