FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Another question? Email or call us, we reply quickly.
How many people does the house sleep?
Up to 6, babies included: a double bed and two single beds upstairs, plus a sofa bed in the sitting room. A cot and a travel cot are provided.
Are the two bedrooms separate?
No: they interconnect, and you walk through the mezzanine room with two single beds to reach the double. Perfect for a family; for two adult couples, the sofa bed downstairs offers more privacy. The old floorboards creak a little.
Are linen and cleaning included?
A €60 fee per stay is added to the nightly rate: beds made on arrival, bath towels, tea towels and the end-of-stay clean. It’s included in the price shown when you book. All we ask is that you leave the house tidy and the washing-up done.
Check-in and check-out times? What if I arrive late?
Check-in from 5 pm, check-out by 11 am. Check-in is self-service with a key safe, and the code is sent before your stay, so arriving late in the evening is no problem. Just let us know your expected time.
Early check-in or late check-out?
Often possible when the house is free the night before or after: just ask us a few days ahead.
Where can we park?
Two free parking spaces right in front of the house.
Are pets allowed?
Yes, at no extra charge. The garden is only partly fenced, so keep an eye on your dog. Please keep pets off the beds and sofa.
Is it suitable for babies and children?
Yes: a cot, a travel cot, stair gates, toys and books for all ages, and a chest full of board games. Keep an eye on toddlers on the inside and outside stairs.
Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes, fast enough for video calls and streaming, with a desk upstairs.
Where are the nearest shops?
There’s a bakery a 5-minute walk away, and a supermarket about 10 minutes by car. Oil, salt, pepper and coffee are provided for your first meal.
Do we need a car?
For day trips, yes, although walks start from the door and Docelles has a station on the line to Épinal.
Is it quiet?
Yes, the house sits quietly above the village. You’ll occasionally hear a passing train or car down in the valley; most guests stop noticing after the first evening, and children love the trains.
What are the house rules?
No smoking, no parties, and quiet hours from 10 pm to 9 am out of respect for the neighbours. Please let us know about any damage, however small.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
No: the entrance is up an outside staircase and the bedrooms are upstairs.
How does payment work?
30% when you book, by card on a secure page (Stripe). The balance is taken automatically 30 days before arrival; if you book within 30 days, you pay in full straight away. No security deposit.
Can I cancel?
Yes, free of charge up to 30 days before arrival: everything is refunded. After that, no refund is possible, so travel insurance may be worth considering. Just reply to your confirmation email.
Is the gîte officially rated?
Yes: it’s an officially rated 3-star holiday home with the Gîtes de France label.
What is there to do in winter?
Downhill and cross-country skiing at Gérardmer and La Bresse, snowshoeing on the ridges, Christmas markets, then back to the warmth of the stove.
